Running activities at a young age does feel easy, especially when the condition of the body's organs is still prime and there are no complaints or obstacles. This sometimes makes some young people not care about health matters because they think that their young age is unlikely to be affected by disease attacks, such as heart failure.

The majority of people with heart failure are older people whose age has exceeded 65 years. However, this does not rule out the possibility that young people or even teenagers can get heart failure, because heart disease does not look at age and can attack anytime and anyone. This can be seen from data in the United States where an estimated 6.2 million people live with heart failure, about 1.4 million are under the age of 60.

Heart failure is a condition when the heart is impaired so that it cannot pump blood properly throughout the body. If not treated immediately, heart failure at a young age can cause sudden death.

What Causes Heart Failure at a Young Age?

Heart failure at a young age is classified as a rare case, but this does not mean that someone who is young is immune from heart failure. This disease can occur due to certain problems with the heart or blockages in the coronary blood vessels of the heart.

If the heart isn't getting enough oxygenated blood, this will make the heart muscles weaker or stiffer to function properly. These conditions can also include narrowing of the arteries in the heart and high blood pressure and can eventually result in heart failure.

What are the Factors that Cause Heart Failure at a Young Age ?

There are several factors that are believed to increase a person's risk of developing heart failure even at a young age, such as:

  •     Having a hereditary history of heart failure.
  •     Being overweight or obese.
  •     Having a lung disorder.
  •     High blood pressure.
  •     Suffering from diabetes.
  •     Rarely exercising.
  •     Unhealthy lifestyle, characterized by a suboptimal diet and tobacco consumption.

Does Age Affect Heart Failure ?

Heart disease is a type of disease that can affect anyone regardless of age. However, age is known to have a factor in increasing the risk of developing heart failure, especially if you have reached an age exceeding 65 years and above.

This is because as people age, the quality of their organs decreases, and this also includes the quality of their heart. One of the main causes of heart disease is the buildup of fatty deposits in the artery walls over the years, hence without a good form of prevention early on, the risk of heart failure will only become higher as one ages.

Prevention of Heart Failure at a Young Age

No need to worry, because heart failure is still a disease that can be prevented and lowered if done early. Lifestyle changes towards a healthier direction are the key to lowering the risk of developing heart failure or other types of heart disease. Several activities that can be undertaken include:

1. Exercise regularly

Exercise can help train and make the heart healthier, and reduce sugar and cholesterol levels in the body which are one of the risks of someone having a heart attack and heart failure.

2. Reduce consumption of fatty foods

Fat accumulation may not happen in 1-2 days, but these risk factors are often the cause of why someone has a sudden heart attack.

3. Quit smoking

Cigarettes contain many chemicals that have a bad impact on one's body health, one of which can increase the risk of heart disease. Stop smoking right now.

4. Manage stress wisely

Unmanaged stress is often one of the reasons why a person's blood pressure rises. If it happens too often, this can lead to hypertension which is one of the diseases that can cause heart failure.

5. Get regular medical check-ups

Doing regular medical check-ups can be a form of preventive action taken to anticipate heart failure. Although heart failure cannot be predicted, regular check-ups can detect potential health problems that can cause heart failure, such as cholesterol levels, sugar levels, and blood pressure, and thus preventive measures can be taken.

This is all the information that can be conveyed about heart failure at a young age. Know that heart disease does not see age to be able to attack. Check yourself immediately if you feel you have a risk of having a heart attack. Although you cannot detect it, you can prevent it together with your doctor and lifestyle changes.
